A Wine with Values

 

Growing up with California wine royalty has its perks. Toby and Dawn Forman have been chasing grapes in California since they were in diapers. You might say they were born with wine in their veins. Toby grew up in Napa with other offspring of some of the valley’s pioneers. Kirk Venge, Alycia Mondavi, Matt Meyer, Charlie Wagner, Perry and Eddy Clark were all school age friends of his. Dawn was raised further North in Mendocino and is the fourth generation to be raised in wine country. Today they carry on their passion and values for family, vineyard, and wine through their label Tobias.

Taking a page of the old and influence of the new, Tobias is a perfect blend of both power and elegance.  Their wine reflects their sense of family, time, and place. Formula winemaking is not in their agenda. They listen to the land, take what they are given, and use their collective knowledge to make the most expressive style of wine they can.

Fruit harvested from family vineyards in Mendocino, Rockpile, Howell Mountain, and Alexander Valley is used to make three distinct wines. “Lexi’s” Sauvignon Blanc is a crisp refreshing wine that shows both depth of fruit and land and is named after their daughter. Sauvignon Blanc happens to be her favorite grape. ”Blue Oaks” Chardonnay is a single plot wine coming from the family estate in Mendocino. It is the definition of restraint; refreshing without being over the top. Nothing is out of place, just a perfect balance of fruit, oak, and acidity. “Formation” is a red blend that is an expression of what the vintage has to offer. Cabernet from their home vineyard on Howell Mountain is the backbone of this stellar wine. The blend will change from year to year, but the wine is always delicious.

Tobias may be new to many, but it is well on its way to being a household name.
